FAQS

The most common questions, like who is behind the UCA? Which are our goals? Which are the benefits of becoming a member?

  • Who is behind the UCA?

We are an independent association founded by curators for curators. At this time we have more than 100 members from over 30 different countries. All of us playlisters, bloggers or radio stations with presence in the main submission platforms like SubmitHub, Groover, PlaylistPush, Soundcamps, DailyPlaylists, etc.

  • Why join the United Curators Association?

Because as individuals we are weak, it’s by organizing ourselves that we can grow in strength to be able to defend our interests against platforms’ unilateral decisions and improve our working conditions.

Because you are not alone. There are many other curators in your country and around the world facing the same issues and challenges you are facing. As we work in isolation, too often curators are unaware of how some platforms really work, the abusive and arbitrary practices platforms have in place and what’s really going on behind the curtains, which is essential to properly evaluate the reality of our work. So we encourage you to join our network of like-minded professionals to stop working in isolation and benefit from the advantages of being a member of the association.

  • Which are the goals of the UCA?

The main goals are:

  • Connect curators and build a strong and safe community.
  • Raise more awareness about our working conditions and the distinctive characteristics of platform work.
  • Initiate a dialog with the main submission platforms to work towards a healthier working relationship, with more transparency, a fair compensation and where the community is able to participate in decisions that affect our working conditions.
  • Establish connections with different unions and other agencies that could assist our community or we could associate with.
  • Explore potential services that could be helpful for members.

This is a community project, so our goals and projects are always open to any suggestions or initiatives from our members.

  • Which are the benefits of being a member?

Members have access to:

  • A safe community chat to share information and concerns with other members and coordinate actions
  • Reference documents with insights about different submission platforms, to better understand how they work, their financial state, algorithms in place, and a list of submission platforms with a detailed review of each of them, etc.
  • First-hand information and documents about current and upcoming laws and regulations that protect us and that affect submission platforms, and any news relevant to curation and platform work, to better identify and understand our working conditions.
  • Insights about our ongoing conversations with submission platforms as an association, and connections to unions and other agencies or actors that may be of help.
  • Insights about the collaborations with unions and other actors that could assist our community or we could associate with.
  • Benefit from other members’ experience and guidance on how to effectively interact with submission platforms or increase your chances to access higher tiers.
  • Participate in debates and decisions that will affect our working conditions and shape the future of the association.

The bigger the community, the bigger the opportunities to get heard by other actors and to be successful on any individual or collective action.
